Description

Join Jackie Taylor and Marsha Tait from the National Coalition for Literacy to learn how you can organize and influence public policies for lifelong learning in the Piedmont Triad region. Whether or not you attended Piedmont Triad Partnership’s Lifelong Learning Summit in April, join us to learn effective strategies for grassroots organizing, share what you think will work best for your region, and strategically organize a grassroots literacy advocacy network in the Piedmont Triad.

—This Webinar is brought to you by Reading Connections and the National Coalition for Literacy, with generous support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. It is in follow up to the Lifelong Learning Summit and offered as a part of the Piedmont Triad Literacy Advocacy Initiative.

Presenters:

Marsha Tait (bio), National Coalition for Literacy Public Policy Co-Chair
Jackie Taylor (bio), National Coalition for Literacy Public Policy Co-Chair and Advocacy Network Coordinator, Tennessee Association for Adult and Community Education (TAACE)

Goal: Organize a seamless grassroots literacy advocacy network in the Piedmont Triad region.

Objectives

Participants will explore questions, like:

  • Why organize? Why me?
  • What do we want to say to policymakers about literacy?
  • What literacy advocacy networks have been most effective in getting the message across?
  • What network models could we replicate or adapt?
  • What will work best for the Piedmont Triad region?
  • How do we get others involved?
  • What are our next steps?
