Adult educators have essential roles to play in ensuring an accurate Census that includes historically undercounted populations and safeguards appropriate funding and Congressional representation for programs and communities. This interactive session provides guidelines for partnering with libraries, immigrant integration services, literacy programs, and Complete Count Committees to engage adult learners in completing the Census and encouraging others to do likewise. You’ll come away with an initial plan that will work for your program’s context.

Adult educators are in a unique position to reach members of “hard to count” populations historically undercounted in the Census. This presentation will begin with an overview of the Census and laws protecting participants’ information and privacy. Presenters will demonstrate how to help participants complete the online form and review areas where learners may have difficulty, questions, or concerns. The session will end with a discussion on how instructors can incorporate the Census into lessons.
